Luis Alejandro Cuéllar-Varona

Luis Alejandro Cuéllar Varona studied industrial engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia, where he graduated in 2001. For 12 years, he worked in marketing, sales, and human resources at multinational and domestic companies, until 2009, when he discovered his life’s passion: photography. He began studying and practicing photography in Bogotá during his free time while working as a national sales manager for a Colombian company.

In 2012, he decided to make a career change: he quit his job, sold everything he owned, and traveled to Paris to pursue his passion and start a new life. He studied at the SPEOS Paris Photography Institute, where he earned his professional photography diploma in 2013. After a few years of practice, he realized he needed to delve deeper into the study of art, and in 2016 he began studying Fine Arts at the École des Arts de la Sorbonne, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 2018 and his Master’s in Fine Arts in 2021.

In 2021, he returned to his other passion: writing. He wrote his first unpublished book: Jano, the Search for Light. A work of fiction that blends photography and literary narrative. In late 2022, he began collaborating with the Franco-Latin American magazine Ojo Vulgar, where he has published several of his short stories.

In 2025, he began his career as a filmmaker by self-producing his first short film, “Tres Veces Doce”, in collaboration with French artists; the film is currently making the festival circuit.

He works as a professional photographer in Paris, primarily on portrait, editorial, and commercial assignments. His personal work focuses on the meaning of everyday life, its banality and naturalness; he is always in search of what he considers beauty: a deep connection with his soul through the numinous.

He has published photography editorials in various magazines in France, England, Brazil, the United States, and Colombia. He has also held exhibitions in galleries and institutions throughout Paris.

Luis Alejandro Cuéllar Varona estudió ingeniería industrial en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Cali, Colombia, donde se graduó en 2001. Durante 12 años trabajó en las áreas de mercadeo, ventas y recursos humanos de empresas multinacionales y nacionales, hasta que en 2009 descubrió la pasión de su vida: la fotografía. Comenzó a estudiarla y practicarla en Bogotá durante su tiempo libre mientras trabajaba como gerente nacional de ventas para una empresa colombiana.

En 2012 decide dar un giro a su carrera: renuncia a su trabajo, vende todo lo que tiene, viaja a París para dedicarse a su pasión y comenzar una nueva vida. Estudió en el Instituto Fotográfico SPEOS París, donde obtuvo el diploma de fotógrafo profesional en 2013. Tras unos años de práctica, comprendió que necesitaba profundizar en el estudio del arte y en 2016 comenzó a estudiar Bellas Artes en la École des Arts de la Sorbonne, donde obtuvo su Licencia en 2018 y su Máster en Bellas Artes en 2021.

En 2021 retoma su otra pasión: la escritura. Escribe su primer libro inédito: Jano, la búsqueda de la luz. Una historia de ficción que mezcla fotografía y narración literaria. A finales de 2022 comienza a colaborar con la revista franco-latinoamericana Ojo Vulgar, donde ha publicado varios de sus relatos cortos.

En 2025, comienza su carrera como director de cine autoproduciendo su primer cortometraje, Tres Veces Doce, en colaboración con artistas franceses, el cual está en este momento haciendo su recorrido por festivales.

Trabaja como fotógrafo profesional en París, principalmente en comisiones de retratos, editoriales y comerciales. Su trabajo personal se centra en el significado de la vida cotidiana, su banalidad y naturalidad; siempre en busca de lo que para él es la belleza: la conexión profunda con su alma a través de lo numinoso.

Ha publicado editoriales de fotografía en varias revistas de Francia, Inglaterra, Brasil, Estados Unidos y Colombia. También ha realizado exposiciones en galerías e instituciones de la ciudad de París.
